My classroom recipe is different from my home recipe, cause it is quick & easy with just a little prep work.
Choose a good size bowl that has a lid. Keep in mind that it has to be large enough for the kiddos to stir & crush the avocado with out it falling out.
Put all the seasonings into the bowl & keep it ready to add the avocado later in front of the class. Bring a bag of chips for dipping.
I like having 2 avocados, one to cut & one to pass around at circle time.
It is nice to have an apple there too. If your doing this activity as a letter A lesson, it is prefect time to compare two. Apples have smaller seeds & you can eat the skins. Avocados have huge seed & we don’t eat the skins & these 2 things are about the same size.
Need tools at circle time:
spoon for scooping
Fork for mashing – Metal not plastic
Knife for teacher to use only * keep safely away for students – always use caution around young children. Try DIY case
Add all the seasonings into the bowl, place lid on & seal. ( Take to shcool)
Prep: Cut the avocado a short time before presenting it to the class. Let them see the surprising size of the seed compared to other seeds. Having an extra avocado that is not cut to pass around is fun too.
Scoop out the avocado with spoon & put into the waiting bowl.
Mash it up a little bit with the fork, showing the kids how to mash & stir.
Pass the bowl around let every one have a turn to mash & stir.
Taste : pass around chips & let every one have a taste or just a chip if they want.
Some kids were surprise and they liked it. When snack time came the teachers had to share with kids. Some moms were surprise that their kids even tasted it. Every class is different. If someone does not want to try - thats ok, no pressure.
This a great recipe for fast guacamole at home too. I like added all the fresh veggies when I can for my regular recipe, but this one works great when your in a hurry and don't have time to cut up onions.
We have not brought bread crumbs in a long time. Now that I can make them at home. I added some extra seasoning to the plain bread crumbs and everyone was very happy with the chicken, and requested it done this way again. Please!
This is a great way to use up old bread before it goes bad. Get full use of it, you paid good money for it.
I used to be frustrated when the bread would dry out before we could eat all. Now I just smile and add it to the bread crumb jar.
Now that I have a steady supply of bread crumbs, I bake more meat loaf & meat balls. The family is very happy.
Carefully toast in oven.
Many times after baking some thing in the oven, these is still enough heat left to dry out the bread. I will place the bread in the oven for a few minutes. Remember to set a timer, you don't want to forget it is in there and turn the oven back on to pre-heat again. * I have burned bread by forgetting it in the cooling oven.
O yummy warm cheese dip. My weakness. I love it on pretzels, & chips.
I did not think that my family would eat it if they knew that it was all vegetables. So, I did not tell them at first. They liked it so much, that it was gone in a day. When they found out that I could make it they asked for more.
Now it has become a stable condiment in our home. It is healthy and inexpensive to make. We are finding more & more uses for it.
Cook over medium heat, stirring till dough pulls away for sides of pan.
Take off heat. Let cool, enough to be kneaded by hand.
Add drops of food coloring and knead in by folding over repeatedly, continue kneading until dough feels right.
Store in air tight container while not in use. Will last for months.
This is an easy recipe, we have used in our classroom for years. Many parents were willing to make it at home and bring it in to class. All I had to do was print out the recipe and send it home. Our class made cakes, pies, pizza, ice cream & so much more with this home-made dough.
